4. FIRST AID MEASURES
Inhalation: If mist or vapor of this product is inhaled, remove person immediately to fresh air. Seek medical attention if symptoms develop or persist.

Eye contact: In case of contact with the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water for 15 minutes, and seek immediate medical attention.

BONDERITE L-FG 31 ACHESON is a water-based graphite die lubricant and it is formulated to provide excellent lubricity and release when used on difficult press work and highly automated processes, including hot, warm, and precision forging.
BONDERITE L-FG 31 ACHESON contains a uniquely fine
particle size graphite. Together with its special stabiliser and binder system this results in excellent lubricity and release, unsurpassed wetting properties, higher dilution ratios, and a longer die life.

use clean water, with a low mineral content and free from microbial infection. Hard water will effect the performance of the product. Dilute by adding water to the concentrate. It is advised to stir the diluted product continuously at a slow
speed to prevent sedimentation and ensure a homogenous performance.
Dilution Ratio
- 3 to 20 parts of water to 1 part of product, depending on severity of the forging operation and alloy.
Storage
Store BONDERITE L-FG 31 ACHESON in a cool place, but do not allow it to freeze. Product should not be used once frozen.
Storage in direct sunlight may overheat BONDERITE L-FG
31 ACHESON and impair performance.
Always tightly reseal the container to prevent evaporation or contamination.

BONDERITE S-AD 31A
Industrial cleaner - brownish, chloride-free liquid inhibitor for many acids, mixtures of acids and, conditionally, for hydrochloric acid.
RODINE 31A is an aliphatic nitrogen corrosion inhibitor containing an acidic blend of complex alkyl pyridines, 1, 3, diethyl thiourea. It protects steel, brass and copper against the attack of phosphoric, sulfuric, sulfamic, acetic oxalic, formic and citric acid, bisulfate solution and mixtures thereof and conditionally for hydrochloric acid. It is a chloride free inhibitor.
RODINE 31A is completely effective up to the following maximum temperatures:-
RODINE 31A is available in 35kgs (32ltrs approx.) and 220kgs (198ltrs approx.) HDPE jars and barrels.
This product should be stored in original containers in cool and dry place, away from sources of heat, flame and direct sunlight. Please refer Technical Data Sheet, Label and MSDS for more details and shelf life.

Rodine 102 is a powdered chemical compound that is designed to inhibit the attack of sulfamic acid and/or sodium bisulfate solutions on cast iron, mild steel, stainless steel, copper, brass, monel etc. during industrial cleaning operations.

Handling measures and precautions
Proper human safety products such as Splash goggles, lab coat, vapor respirator, gloves and boots should be worn while handling and applying chemicals. Splashes on skin should be washed off with water immediately. In case of splashing into the eyes, flush it with fresh water and obtain medical attention. Should not be injected. Please refer MSDS for more details.

CORROSION INHIBITOR

Provisional Application No. 61/333851 , filed on May 12, 2010.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION:

[0002] The present invention relates generally to pH adjusting agents, and, in particular, to a method for lowering the pH of solutions through the use of urea sulfate in the presence of a corrosion inhibitor.

[0003] The use of pH adjusting agents in solutions is known. In particular, urea sulfate has been used in textile processes to adjust the pH. This method is described in detail in U.S. Patent No. 5,234,466, which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.

[0004] While the use of urea sulfate to adjust the pH of textile process solutions is effective, corrosion can and does still occur on the machinery and equipment employed in the processes. Furthermore, other applications than merely textiles can benefit from the use of pH adjusting agents, especially in a form that does cause or facilitate corrosion when used.

[0005] Accordingly, there remains a need for an improved way to adjust the pH of solutions used in numerous applications, such as paper, agricultural, pharmaceutical, metals and water applications, but that also inhibits and/or minimizes corrosion.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:

[0006] The following presents a simplified summary of the invention in order to provide a basic understanding of some aspects of the invention. This summary is not an extensive overview of the invention. It is not intended to identify key or critical elements of the invention or to delineate the scope of the invention; its sole purpose is to present concepts of the invention in a simplified form as a prelude to the more detailed description that is subsequently presented.

[0007] According to its major aspects and briefly stated, the present invention includes a method for adjusting pH of an aqueous solution during a processing event that includes the addition of urea sulfate to the solution in the presence of a corrosion inhibitor. The processing event can be relating any number of applications, including but not limited to, textile, paper, agricultural, metals, and water applications.

[0008] These and other embodiments as will be realized are provided in a method for adjusting pH in an aqueous solution, comprising the steps of: providing a solution having a pH; introducing the solution to a metal; providing an amount of corrosion inhibitor; adding the corrosion inhibitor to an amount of water to form an aqueous solution; adding an amount of urea sulfate to the aqueous solution to form a pH adjusting solution; and altering said pH of said solution by adding said pH adjusting solution.

[0009] These and other embodiments as will be realized are also provided in a method for adjusting pH in an aqueous solution, comprising the steps of: providing a solution having a pH; introducing the solution to a metal; providing an amount of corrosion inhibitor and an amount of urea sulfate to an aqueous solution, wherein said aqueous solution is a pH adjusting solution; and lowering the pH of the solution by adding the pH adjusting solution.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENT:

[0010] The present invention is method for adjusting the pH of processing solutions by adding urea sulfate in the presence of a corrosion inhibitor. As used herein, "corrosion inhibitor" refers to a material that reacts with a metallic surface, or the environment to which this surface is exposed, giving the surface a certain level of protection against corrosion. The mechanism of inhibition often includes a corrosion inhibitor adsorbing itself on the metallic surface, protecting the metallic surface by filing a film. Inhibitors are normally distributed from a solution or dispersion. Inhibitors slow corrosion process by either increasing the anodic or cathodic polarization behavior (Tafel slopes), reducing the movement or diffusion of ions to the metallic surface, or increasing the electrical resistance of the metallic surface.

[0011] In particular, "acid corrosion inhibition" refers to the creation of a barrier between the ionic transfer of electrons from water to metal. Therefore, any chemical or material that prevents this type of ionic transfer is a suitable acid inhibitor. The acid inhibitor chemical compounds will vary depending on the metal that needs corrosion protection. One example of an acid corrosion inhibitor is copper sulfate.

[0012] Thus, the present invention includes a method for adjusting pH of an aqueous solution during a processing event that includes the addition of urea sulfate to the solution in the presence of a corrosion inhibitor. In one embodiment, the method includes the steps of: 1 ) providing an aqueous processing solution; 2) introducing the aqueous solution to a metal, wherein the metal can include, but is not limited to, carbon steel or stainless steel; and 3) adjusting the pH of the aqueous processing solution with a pH adjusting solution, wherein the pH adjusting solution is prepared by the following steps: i) providing an amount of urea sulfate; ii) providing an amount of corrosion inhibitor, wherein the corrosion inhibitor can include, but is not limited to, copper sulfate or a dialkylthiourea; iii) adding the corrosion inhibitor to water or an aqueous solution; and iv) combing the amount of urea sulfate with the solution containing corrosion inhibitor to form a pH adjusting solution. The resulting solution can be employed in any number of applications, including but not limited to textile, paper, agricultural, metals, and water applications.

[0013] The particular corrosion inhibitor employed in the present invention can be any chemical or material that creating a barrier between the ionic transfer of electrons from water to metal. However, based on the properties of the metals in which corrosion is being inhibited, certain materials are preferred to others. For example, if the metal at issue is carbon steel, a preferred corrosion inhibitor includes dialkylthioureas, such as diethylthiourea and dibutylthiourea. If the metal is stainless steel, a preferred corrosion inhibitor includes cupric sulfate or copper sulfate, as well as commercially available materials or blends of materials effective at inhibiting corrosion, including but not limited to a material from the Rodine family, such as Rodine 214, Rodine 213, Rodine 145L, Rodine 103, Rodine 102; Rodine 95, and Rodine 85, Rodine 55, Rodine 50, Rodine 31 A, etc.; from the Dodicor family, such as Dodicor 2565 and Dodicor 2725 NF, Dodicor V 5277, Dodicor V 4712, Dodicor 1830, Dodicor 4543, Dodicor 3747, etc.; or from the Armohib family, such as Armohib Cl- 219, Armohib 209, Armohib 31 , Armohib 28, etc. These blends can also work to inhibit corrosion of carbon steel type metals. It is believed that Rodine inhibitors are provided by JMN Specialties, Inc. and Corp., Dodicor inhibitors are provided by Clariant, and Armohib inhibitors are provided by Akzo Nobel Surfactants LLC.

[0014] In another embodiment, the present invention includes a method for adjusting the pH of an aqueous solution including the following steps: 1 ) providing an aqueous processing solution; 2) introducing the processing solution to a metal, the metal being carbon steel; and 3) adjusting the pH of the aqueous processing solution by introducing a pH adjusting solution, wherein the pH adjusting solution is prepared by the following steps: i) providing an effective amount of dialkylthiourea selected from diethylthiourea or dibutylthiourea; ii) adding the dialkylthiourea to an amount of water so that the aqueous solution contains between about 10 ppm to about 1000 ppm of dialkylthiourea; and iii) adding an effective amount of urea sulfate to the aqueous solution to form the pH adjusting solution.

[0015] The urea sulfate can be formed from a ratio of between approximately 1 :4 and 4:1 moles of urea to sulfuric acid. Alternatively, the urea sulfate can be formed from a molar ratio of urea to sulfuric acid of between about 2.5 and about 0.25 moles of urea to sulfuric acid. Alternatively, the urea sulfate can be formed from a molar ratio of urea to sulfuric acid of about 1 mole to about 1 mole of sulfuric acid.

[0016] In another embodiment, the pH adjusting solution is prepared by the following steps: 1 ) providing an effective amount of dialkylthiourea; 2) adding the effective amount of dialkylthiourea to an amount of water so that the acqueous solution contains about 200 ppm of dialkylthiourea; and 3) adding an effective amount of urea sulfate to the solution to form the pH adjusting solution.

[0017] In yet another embodiment, the present invention includes a method for adjusting the pH of an aqueous solution including the following steps: 1 ) providing an aqueous processing solution; 2) introducing the processing solution to a metal, the metal being stainless steel; and 3) adjusting the pH of the aqueous processing solution by introducing a pH adjusting solution, wherein the pH adjusting solution is prepared by the following steps: i) providing an effective amount of copper sulfate; ii) adding the copper sulfate to an amount of water so that the aqueous solution contains between about 10 ppm to about 1000 ppm of copper sulfate; and iii) adding an effective amount of urea sulfate to the aqueous solution to form the pH adjusting solution.

Companies using mixed acid systems are bound by the European Union's ‘Seveso
Directive' aimed at improving the safety of sites producing or using large quantities of
dangerous substances. Bonderite C-CP LF2 eliminates or strongly reduces this need.
A further advantage of the product is the reduced etching effect that it has on
the bare metal once the oxide has been removed. Tests have shown that, when
treating wire coil for example, losses of the stainless steel can be as much as 80%
lower than when using alternative pickling solutions. This is roughly equivalent to a
saving of 15 euro per ton of stainless steel.
Bonderite C-CP LF2 also lasts over twice as long, since the dissolution of base alloy
is reduced to a minimum. Overall, there is an important decrease in costs of the
pickling process. Users can obtain better results than mixed acids on duplex and
super duplex steel, as well as on materials treated without annealing (so-called asrolled steel).
Mr. Stephan further points out that pickling activity using theproduct remains
constant during the ageing of the solution. Furthermore, there is no sludge formation
by metal salts, and the oxide scale sludge that is produced is easy to remove.

WHAT IS CLAIMED IS:
1. A method for adjusting pH in an aqueous solution, comprising the steps of: providing a solution having a pH;
introducing said solution to a metal;
providing an amount of corrosion inhibitor;

[0021] The term "Ultra Biocid" refers to an aqueous solution having 99% Urea sulfate and 1 % copper sulfate. The term "Ultra Biocid EH" refers to an aqueous solution containing 99% urea sulfate and 1 % Armohib, which is a blend containing copper sulfate. Ultra Biocid and Ultra Biocid EH are presently commercially available and sold by Ultra-chem Industries, Inc. In table 1 , "100% Concentrate" refers to material which is used as purchased and "20% Concentrate" refers to material diluted to 20% with the addition of water.

[0022] The data shown in the table above indicates that certain corrosion inhibitors are more effective at preventing corrosion when used with certain metal. Moreover, without any corrosion inhibitor, the corrosion is made even worse, as shown by the mpy values of acetic acid and citric acid.

[0023] Thus, without the proper inhibitor the corrosion as measured by mpy's is severe. For example, Utra Biocid inhibits against corrosion more effectively when the metal is a stainless steel 316 type. Though not shown, the results above for the Ultra Biocid and Ultra Biocid EH become approximately reversed if the metal used is stainless steel.

[0024] The Ultra Biocid EH inhibits corrosion against carbon steel type products better than Ultra Biocid, as shown by the low mpy value at merely 20% concentrate of Ultra Biocid EH. The addition of water to Ultra Biocid in the presence of carbon steel, therefore, greatly increases corrosion rates. The addition of water to Ultra Biocid EH does not increase its corrosion rates. Nevertheless, at 100% concentrate, Ultra Biocid still operates to inhibit corrosion. The 100% concentrated Ultra Biocid and Ultra Biocid EH has very low corrosion characteristics in the absence of water.

Acid inhibitors, in terms of metal manufacturing and handling can also be called acid corrosion inhibitors, rust preventatives or rust preventives. In essence, these are products (usually liquids) are used to permit:

These chemical additives are applied by dip, spray or other coating methods to protect metal components and equipment from the corrosive action of a direct contact or environmental acid. Rodine 213 SPL is a high foaming acidic blend of concentrated organic cationic inhibitor with surfactants and stabilizers to impart cleaning and extended inhibitor life. RODINE 213 SPL is designed to prevent the acidic attack of Hydrochloric acid (of all concentration) on various metals such as Copper, Brass, Nickel, Tin, Lead, Zinc, Galvanized surface and all type of steel. RODINE 213 SPL can be used for blending or formulating pre-inhibited descalant or acidic cleaners. It also arrests the fuming characteristic of HCL to up to 80%.

Application and Dosage:
For formulating acidic cleaner or descaling compound, RODINE 213 SPL should be dosed in the following ratio:
For Hydrochloric acid (30-33%) - 1% w/w for use up to 120oC (250oF) For HCL + HF mixture - 2% w/w for use up to 120oC (250oF).
For onsite cleaning operations, RODINE 213 SPL should be dosed in the following ratio for every 1000ltrs of diluted acid at .5% and 10% w/w HCL concentration:- Up to 65oC - 1ltr (1.1kg) for 5% and 1.25ltr (1.35kg) for 10% Up to 80oC - 2ltr (2.2kg) for 5% and 2.5ltr (2.7kg) for 10% Up to 93oC - 3ltr (3.2kg) for 5% and 3.5ltr (3.8kg) for 10%.
Handling measures and precautions:
Proper human safety products such as Splash goggles, lab coat, vapor respirator, gloves and boots should be worn while handling and applying chemicals. Splashes on skin should be washed off with water immediately. In case of splashing into the eyes, flush it with fresh water and obtain medical attention. Should not be injected. Storage:

This product should be stored in original containers in cool and dry place, away from sources of heat, flame and direct sunlight. Please refer Technical Data Sheet, Label and MSDS for more details and shelf life.

BREATHING (INHALATION): Remove from exposure area to fresh air immediately. If breathing has stopped, perform artificial resuscitation. Keep person warm and at rest. Treat symptomatically and supportively. Seek medical attention immediately. Qualified medical personnel should consider administering oxygen.
SWALLOWING (INGESTION): Give large amounts of fresh water or milk immediately. Do not give anything by mouth if person is unconscious or otherwise unable to swallow. If vomiting occurs, keep head below hips to prevent aspiration. Treat symptomatically and supportively. Seek medical
attention immediately.

GET MEDICAL ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY. Contact lenses should not be worn when working with this chemical.
SKIN (DERMAL):........................ Remove contaminated clothing and wash affected skin with soap and water. If persistent irritation occurs, obtain medical attention. When using high pressure equipment, injection of product under the skin can occur. If high pressure injuries occur, the casualty should be sent immediately to a hospital. Do not wait for symptoms to develop.
NOTE TO PHYSICIAN: ............. Sulfuric acid is reported to cause pulmonary function impairment. Periodic surveillance is indicated. Sulfuric acid may cause acute lung damage. Surveillance of the lungs is indicated. Ingestion may cause gastroesophageal perforation. Perforation may occur within 72 hours, but along with abscess formation, can occur weeks later. Long term complications may include esophageal, gastric or pyloric strictures or stenosis. All treatments should be based on observed signs and symptoms of distress in the patient. Consideration should be given to the possibility that overexposure to materials other than this product may have occurred.

5 - FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES
GENERAL FIRE HAZARDS: .... May cause mild to severe chemical burns to tissue; product is very corrosive. Spilled product is extremely slippery. Emergency responders in the danger area should wear bunker gear and self-contained breathing apparatus for fires beyond the incipient stage (29CFR 1910.156). In addition, wear other appropriate protective equipment as conditions warrant (see Section 8). Water reactive. Contact with water may generate heat. Isolate damage area, keep unauthorized personnel out. If tank, railcar, or tank truck is involved in a fire, isolate for ½ mile in all directions. Consider initial evacuation for ½ mile in all directions. Stop spill/release if it can be done with minimal risk. Move undamaged containers from danger area if it can be done with minimal risk. Fires involving small amounts of combustibles may be smothered with suitable dry chemicals. Use water on combustibles burning but avoid using water directly on acid as it may result in evolution of heat and may cause splattering.

Metal Pickling: Acids and Inhibitors
Hot rolling processes associated with various metal industries often leave behind inorganic oxide residues on treated metal surfaces. Exposure to moisture also results in rusting of Ferro-Nickel based metal parts. These oxides interfere with further cold processing like polishing, electroplating, painting or enameling. Rust and scale formation is a thin layer of metal oxide on the surface that is mostly removed by chemical cleaning also called "Pickling".
Pickling is carried out on oxide scaled surfaces of metals with alloy content less than 6%. The ideal pickling solution, known as Pickle Liquor is a 3%-10% solution of Hydrochloric acid (HCl) or Sulfuric acid (H2SO4). Hydrochloric acid is chosen over Sulfuric acid because of faster pickling action all the while minimizing base metal loss. It restricts formation of smut and greatly decreases the risk of excessive attacking. It is also economic as heating expenses needed for sulfuric acid are spared due to possibility of lower temperature pickling.
Metal pickling is essential for thoroughly removing scales and inorganic surface contaminants before applying finishing layers like paint, galvanizing and polishing. The result of the process depends on the type, strength and temperature of the pickling liquor. In order to be economical, it is chosen as a continuous cleaning process by mode of manual/mechanized spraying or dipping in large acid vats. For small scale industries like jewellery making and research laboratories, extensive use of pickle pots is observed. Nevertheless, the corrosive action of diluted pickle acids cannot be ignored. In most cases, there is a significant loss of base metal during cleaning operations. For this reason, Acid Inhibitors are used with the acid solution to reduce base metal corrosion.
Inhibitors are natural or synthetic organic compounds added to acid solutions to reduce metal surface corrosion. They slow or stop the chemical action of acid on the base metal surface.

They are specially synthesized to provide protection to base metals from acidic corrosion effectively. Rodine Acid Inhibitor products inhibit the corrosion of metals against acids like Hydrochloric, Hydrofluoric, Sulfuric, Phosphoric, Sulfamic, and organic acids blends.
